In a thrilling and contentious English Premier League clash, Tottenham Hotspur secured victory over a nine-man Liverpool side, thanks to Joel Matip’s own goal deep into stoppage time.

The Reds found themselves in a tough spot with two highly debated red cards. Curtis Jones was the first to see red, sent off after just 26 minutes for a challenge on Yves Bissouma, following a VAR review.

Shortly before halftime, substitute Diogo Jota joined him in the dressing room after receiving two quick bookings.

Amidst a game filled with controversy, Liverpool had what seemed to be a legitimate opening goal by Luis Diaz disallowed due to a questionable VAR decision.

The officials ruled Diaz offside without displaying the customary offside line graphics. The PGMOL later acknowledged a “significant human error” and deemed the decision to disallow Diaz’s goal as a “clear and obvious factual error”.

They expressed that VAR should have intervened but failed to do so, promising a “full review” to understand the lapse.

Captain Son Heung-min then put Spurs ahead with a well-taken goal, receiving a pass from Richarlison after an impressive move orchestrated by summer signing James Maddison.

However, Liverpool managed to level the score just before halftime, as Cody Gakpo netted the equalizer with a smart turn and finish from Virgil van Dijk’s header down.

Unfortunately, van Dijk sustained an injury during the act and didn’t return for the second half.
In the second half, Spurs had the better of the chances, with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson making outstanding saves to keep his team in the game, denying Maddison and Son on multiple occasions.

It appeared that Liverpool’s resolute defense would secure them a hard-fought draw, but the dramatic climax was yet to unfold.

In the dying moments of the match, as Spurs launched a final attack, Joel Matip inadvertently directed Pedro Porro’s cross into his own net, leaving Alisson helpless.

This dramatic turn of events sparked jubilation and relief among the home supporters, handing Liverpool their first defeat of the season and preserving manager Ange Postecoglou’s unbeaten Premier League record.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, views winning six out of seven matches as a positive outcome, even in the wake of a defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The champions’ perfect Premier League record was halted at Molineux, where Hwang Hee-chan netted a second-half winner, securing an unexpected victory for Wolves.

Guardiola, who was serving a one-match touchline ban and had to watch from the stands, couldn’t intervene as his team struggled to assert their usual dominance, and the prolific striker Erling Haaland had limited scoring opportunities.

Despite City’s 2-1 loss, Guardiola remained upbeat and chose to accentuate the positives while looking ahead to the upcoming clash with Arsenal.

The manager preferred to emphasize that the season is still in its early stages, even though they lost their flawless Premier League record at Molineux.

“Well, I’m pretty sure today we didn’t lose the Premier League and we didn’t win the Premier League, either,” said Pep.

“Six out of seven is nice. We could have done something we have never done before by winning seven in a row – we have our game, but the opponent played really, really good.

“They defended really well and they had the ability to keep it and drive and dribble forward. I told the team they (Wolves) came from being out of the Carabao Cup to lower league team – it’s happened and when you face this situation, its so much more difficult and I told them so.

“Today some details didn’t happen and maybe I apply bad some decisions.”

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has pointed out that it’s evident why his team suffered a home defeat against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League.

The Eagles managed to avenge their earlier Carabao Cup loss, with Joachim Andersen scoring from an infrequent goal attempt and effectively defending their lead as the Reds fell short in their efforts to equalize.

Ten Hag emphasized that the team’s decision-making in the final third was subpar, despite having some promising situations in both halves of the game.

“It’s a bad start,” said the Dutch manager. We have to catch up and do better. This is not good enough.

“Of course, it’s frustrating for everyone, especially the fans. It’s frustrating but for us, as well, the players and for me. We have to stay together, fight together and get better and make sure we get improvement.”

“I think every occasion is different. Sometimes it’s like calmness and composure, other times it’s be more clinical, other times be more direct. “The next time, play the extra pass. As I’ve said, it’s about decision making, the qualities and skillset the players have.

“There were many occasions, I can’t count them, but we are in the position to put the ball where we want to be. I think I repeat myself but we came into the positions and have to make the [correct] decision.

“Yes, these players can do better. We have more qualities than we showed today. Always, we learn from the game. We learn we are to do better in the final part of the game. The first goal is very important, if you concede it, you still have to win. You have to find a way to win and we didn’t, so we have to blame ourselves.”

Kai Havertz opened his scoring account for Arsenal with a penalty, contributing to their comfortable victory over struggling Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in the English Premier League.

Havertz, who has faced difficulties since his summer transfer from Chelsea, confidently converted Arsenal’s second penalty, securing their third consecutive away win.

The scoring began with Bukayo Saka, who netted by heading in the rebound from Gabriel Jesus’ shot. Martin Odegaard also joined the score sheet with a well-placed penalty, granting Mikel Arteta’s team a comfortable lead at halftime.

Arsenal’s dominance extended into the second half, culminating in Havertz’s goal. In added time, Ben White headed home from Odegaard’s free-kick, adding a touch of brilliance to their comprehensive victory.

Bournemouth, now under the management of Andoni Iraola, find themselves in the relegation zone after failing to secure a win in their first seven league matches.

Arsenal’s first notable attack of the game resulted in the opening goal, marking their return to winning form following a 2-2 draw against Tottenham the previous weekend.

Odegaard delivered a deep cross, which was headed against the bar by Jesus, and Saka was perfectly positioned to head in the rebound.

This goal put Bournemouth on the defensive against a team that had maintained an unbeaten record in their last 40 Premier League matches when scoring first, a streak that began in January 2022.

Bournemouth’s opportunities were limited in this largely one-sided contest. Dominic Solanke had a clear chance on goal, but William Saliba made a crucial interception to thwart the attempt. Ryan Christie had a shot just before halftime, but Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya, collected it comfortably, securing his third clean sheet in four games.

Max Aarons fouled Eddie Nketiah in the box just before halftime, leading to a penalty. Saka, the usual penalty taker, entrusted the ball to Odegaard, who calmly slotted it into the bottom left corner after a hesitant run-up.

Christie’s challenge on Odegaard in the box resulted in Bournemouth conceding a second penalty, which Havertz confidently placed into the bottom left corner.

Substitute Emile Smith Rowe had a golden opportunity to add to the scoreline late in the game but narrowly missed from close range, while White concluded the scoring with his late header.

Bournemouth has only managed to score once in their four home league games this season, and that lone goal came in their season opener against West Ham back in August. The hosts posed little challenge to Arsenal, who secured a straightforward away victory.

Claude Makelele has departed from his role at Chelsea, where he served as both a youth coach and a technical advisor.

The former French international embarked on his coaching journey back in May 2014, taking on the position of head coach for Ligue 2 side Bastia. However, his tenure at Bastia was short-lived, lasting less than half a year as he was relieved of his duties in November 2014, following a 1–0 loss to Guingamp on November 1st.

This decision stemmed from his inability to significantly impact the club in his coaching capacity.
Before his stint at Bastia, the 50-year-old former footballer served as an assistant coach at the French Ligue 1 outfit, Paris Saint-Germain, working alongside Paul Clement.

In January 2016, Makelele assumed the role of technical director at Monaco. Subsequently, in January 2017, he reunited with Clement as an assistant coach at the Premier League club Swansea City.

Following his time at Swansea City, Makelele took on the position of head coach at the Belgian club Eupen in November 2017.

His tenure with Eupen spanned nearly two full seasons before he made the decision to depart in August 2019.

He returned to his former club, Chelsea, to serve as a youth coach and provide his expertise as a technical mentor.

“After four fulfilling years, Chelsea and I decided, by mutual consent, that it’s time for me to seek a fresh, new challenge,” Makelele wrote on his official Twitter account.

“I do want to thank the fans for their affection. Blue will always be the color of my heart; I’ll share more once I’ve set my mind on the next chapter.”

Tottenham Hotspur displayed their resilience by twice coming from behind to earn a well-fought point in the thrilling north London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

In a relentless contest, Arsenal seized the initiative 26 minutes in, capitalizing on a deflection off Spurs defender Cristian Romero from Bukayo Saka’s shot, which found the back of the net.

rsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, made a pivotal choice by entrusting David Raya with goalkeeping duties instead of Aaron Ramsdale. Raya justified this decision with two outstanding saves, denying Brennan Johnson’s attempts as Spurs relentlessly pursued an equalizer.

However, Raya’s fortune took a downturn just three minutes before halftime when he could only parry away a cross, allowing Spurs to sustain their attack. The sequence culminated with James Maddison delivering a precise cross to Son Heung-min, who calmly slotted home to level the score.

Arsenal regained their lead in the 54th minute after Romero was penalized for a handball following a VAR intervention, with Saka converting from the penalty spot.

Undeterred, Tottenham, exemplifying their new positive approach under manager Ange Postecoglou in his inaugural north London derby, swiftly restored parity. Jorginho lost possession to Maddison, who then orchestrated a play that concluded with Son calmly finishing for the equalizer.

“We feel like we lost two points,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports after the match.
“It’s true there was a lot of change in the dominance of the game, but especially when we had more control and more dominance in the game, and we score the goal, they score straight away.

“We started quite good, we scored the goal, but straight away we concede. So, emotionally, that was a difficult one to take. I thought we struggled for a period of 10 or 15 minutes later, we lacked a lot of composure with the ball and we made it a basketball game.

“But I think in the end we pushed, pushed and pushed, but couldn’t get the win. The hardest thing to do is put the ball in the net. We’ve done it twice but I think we conceded two really poor goals. At this level, they’re going to punish you because they’ve got top players.

“Obviously we are disappointed with the way we conceded the goals but of course this is football and you have to live with that.”

Following his Chelsea’s red card in a 1-0 Premier League loss to Aston Villa, Mauricio Pochettino believes his team was unfortunate, but recognized the need for greater maturity in his young squad.

Throughout the first hour of the match, Chelsea dominated proceedings. Both goalkeepers, Robert Sanchez and Emiliano Martinez, delivered remarkable saves to maintain parity on the scoresheet.

However, the turning point came with a red card shown to right-back Malo Gusto, prompted by VAR intervention after referee Jarred Gillett initially considered the challenge deserving of only a yellow card.

The Frenchman had cleanly won the ball but caught Lucas Digne with the follow-through. This numerical advantage allowed Aston Villa to seize the lead and maintain it. Following the final whistle, Pochettino initially emphasized the disparity in scoring opportunities created by both teams before and after the sending off.

“First half I think we deserved a little bit more,” said Pochettino. “We had the control of the game. Then in the second half we started on top of them but then with the red card the game changed.

“For 60 minutes with 11 against 11 and then the rest with 10 men it’s two different games. It was a little bit unlucky. How many chances did we have like that one for Aston Villa? We blocked the shot and then the shot comes back and the second one hits the post and goes in.

“For us, how many times were we one-against-one with Emi Martinez. That was a little bit unlucky also, but that happened.

“In this situation we need to accept the reality, but it was a little bit unlucky because of how many chances they created, when you take off the set-pieces. It wasn’t many. With 10 men we were forcing them to go back and we created chances. That is the situation.

“We need to be aware about what is going on but at the same time we need to be calm because the team is creating, the team is alive, the team is fighting in every single action. We cannot say that the players gave up after 70 minutes, they were fighting until the end with one players less. It’s just about working and hopefully we can change the situation as soon as possible.”

The Chelsea head coach refused to point fingers over Malo Gusto’s red card. “It was in front of me but I didn’t see it, so I cannot say it wasn’t a red card. We need to trust the referee and the VAR and we cannot go back and change the decision, we need to accept that.

“It’s the player’s responsibility, we cannot blame the referee or the VAR. In this situation we need to act in a different way.

“I’m not going to blame or say anything against Malo Gusto, because sometimes these situations happen in football, but of course the situation affected the team and the game in a negative way.”

Bruno Fernandes scored remarkable volley to secure a crucial victory for Manchester United as they narrowly overcame a Burnley side still seeking their first win in the Premier League this season.

United, in dire need of a spark after three consecutive losses, found it in the 45th minute when their captain, Fernandes, executed a brilliant first-time volley from Jonny Evans’ lofted pass.

This sublime strike was of the highest quality and proved decisive, giving United their third win in six league games this season. This victory pushed Vincent Kompany’s side to the bottom of the league table, with just one point to their name thus far.

Burnley showcased moments of delightful football during the match, with Zeki Amdouni providing a scare for the visitors as he directed a free header that required Andre Onana to make a full-stretch save.

Amdouni had an even better opportunity when he was set up by Aaron Ramsey, but his low shot deflected off the post.

United thought they had taken the lead earlier when Evans headed in a corner, but VAR disallowed the goal due to Rasmus Hojlund’s interference with goalkeeper James Trafford.

In the second half, Burnley relentlessly pursued an equalizer, with Sander Berge narrowly heading over the bar. Despite their recent struggles, United managed to hold on for the victory, a much-needed result after conceding three or more goals in their previous three matches against Arsenal, Brighton, and Bayern Munich.

The match began with Marcus Rashford’s early attempt that hit the side-netting, raising hopes of a rejuvenated United. However, their overall performance remained lackluster and lethargic.

Burnley gradually gained momentum after Rashford’s early chance, and they will rue Amdouni’s missed opportunities in the first half.

Onana, the under-pressure goalkeeper, made crucial saves, including denying a header from Swiss striker Amdouni and watching as Amdouni’s shot hit the woodwork following an impressive team build-up.

Amidst Burnley’s promising play, Fernandes provided a moment of brilliance just before halftime. Breaking free from his marker, he expertly received Evans’ pinpoint pass and unleashed an unstoppable volley into the bottom corner, leaving Trafford with no chance.

Fernandes came close to adding a spectacular second goal in injury time, but Trafford managed to deny his hook shot.

Defender Evans, who returned to the club in the summer, made his first United start since March 2015. He did score with a header, but VAR overturned the decision.

Evans had experienced relegation with Leicester last season, a fate Burnley will be eager to avoid this time.

Having lost all four home games this season, they recall that it took them nine matches to secure their first victory in the 2021-22 campaign, which ultimately ended in relegation to the Championship.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, revealed that Rodrigo extended his apologies to his teammates following his red card during Saturday’s clash against Nottingham Forest.

In the English Premier League match held at Etihad Stadium, City triumphed 2-0 over Steve Cooper’s side, but the Spanish international was shown a red card after an altercation with Morgan Gibbs-White.

As a result, City played with 10 players for the rest of the match, prompting Guardiola to call upon Kalvin Phillips to assume a central midfield role.

City exhibited dominance in the first half, as both Phil Foden and Erling Haaland found the back of the net to secure our lead.

The team managed to hold off the opposition in the second half, limiting them to just three shots on target, ultimately securing our sixth consecutive victory in this season’s Premier League.

Asked about Rodrigo’s response in the dressing room after the game, Guardiola said the Spaniard was contrite.

“He has done it. He has apologised. [He said] Sorry,” he said. “Rodri has to control his emotions. I can get a yellow card but Rodri cannot get a red.

“I don’t play, the players in the pitch have to control their emotions.”

The Etihad crowd got behind 10-man City in the second half to help see us over the line for our 300th Premier League home win.

Guardiola believes that atmosphere was crucial as his players worked tirelessly to keep Forest out.

“You can lie to one person but not almost 60,000 people,” he said. “It’s impossible. They see we are not lazy, they see we do everything to defend a result from the difficulties we had in the second half.

“The spectators are involved in that and that’s why they can give more energy when they are tired.”
