Bapela: Sundowns Under-19 can beat Chiefs

Alex Bapela says even if Mamelodi Sundowns bring their Under-19 for the DStv Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs, they will still beat Amakhosi easily.

Kaizer Chiefs hosts Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 21 January after a 4-0 defeat to Amazulu.

“After the Amazulu 4-0 defeat, this must be a long week for Chiefs, I’m sure their players do not want to play against Sundowns,” the former Sundowns midfielder tells Touchline News.

“They are scared. Even if Sundowns can bring their Under-19’s this week, they will easily beat Chiefs.

Chiefs is not in a good frame of mind. Even Arthur [Zwane] knows that he is hanging by the thread. With Chiefs you don’t get fired by Kaizer [Motaung], the pressure is just too much.

The supporters are all over and you can’t go anywhere. I don’t want to be Arthur right now.”

Sundowns beat Supersport United 1-0 at Loftus Stadium last night to stretch their lead at the top table by 14 points and a PSL coaches have already declared the title race over and Bapela shares the sentiment.

“We know where the title is going this season. Other PSL teams are fighting for number two, top eight and relegation.

After Sundowns beat Chiefs this weekend, who can stop them – they are leading with 14 points? Even if Sundowns doesn’t play for five games, they will still be number one. It’s a sad reality.

Sundows is far ahead of everyone in the league and it doesn’t start with the senior team, it starts with the development.

They have scouts all over the county and get the best players. Nobody can match them in the country. Maybe for the next 10 years Sundowns will still be on top.”

The current PSL teams have failed to compete with Sundowns. I really trusted Stellenbosch but this season I don’t know what happened to them because they are are struggling.”
