Stellenbosch FC head coach, Steve Barker, has shared his thoughts on this coming weekend’s DStv Premiership against Kaizer Chiefs.
The Cape side is on a good run of form of seven unbeaten matches across all competitions with the last defeat coming in January against Orlando Pirates.
“Preparations are going well for the match against Kaizer Chiefs,” said Barker. “The mood is up-beat, we are in a good sort of space right now with current results. A big game against Kaizer Chiefs to look forward to.
“The mood has been very good, a lot of bubbliness, a lot enthusiasm and a lot positiveness around the squad which makes it quite good.
“When you are on a run like this, confidence is always higher. But the key is we must never be satisfied with that, we want to continue with that run and finish the season strong starting with the match this weekend.”
Kaizer Chiefs are also unbeaten in three matches. When the two sides met in the first round, Amakhosi beat Stellies 3-1 with Caleb Bonfils-Bimenyimana netting a hattrick.
“The key to us getting good results against Chiefs, we must continue from the emotional point of view and be humble and not become complacent,” adds Barker.
“We are always looking for areas to improve and to become a better team that we were in the previous match. Chiefs themselves are on a good run and they have also been playing well, they have good players all around the park, goal threats all round, good individual quality.
“It goes without saying that we have to play to our full potential. We have to do what we do well as a football team, we have to negate the strength they have a team.
“If we can do that, we have the ability of asking them questions. It’s going to be one of those games where we have to play well both defensively and in attack, take our chances.”
