Dondol Stars co-coach, Vincent Rammoni, says his humble to reach the Nedbank Cup quarter-final after eliminating Supersport United and Amazulu.
The ABC Motsepe League side will take on Orlando Pirates at Peter Mokaba Stadium and if they win, they will become the first lower league side to eliminate three PSL sides in the same season.
“We are very excited to still be part of this competition and to reach this level – I was not aware that we are the first side to beat two PSL sides in the first two sides,” Rammoni said.
“We are still the same Dondol Stars that reached the last 32, we are still that little side from the third tier of South African football. We are humble, we need to learn from Orlando Pirates football club, we have learned a lot from Supersport United and Amazulu.
“As the technical staff, we know why we are at this stage of the competition and what we have been doing behind the scenes. We need to remain consistent and we are looking to the clash.”
Dondol Stars are in contention of qualifying for the promotional play offs this season. And Rammoni adds that playing in the Nedbank Cup has helped a lot in the team’s quest to win promotion.
“The Nedbank Cup has helped us as the technical team and the players in our journey of trying to gain promotion [to the Motsepe Foundation Championship].
“Now we are able to able to handle a lot of aspects better that before. For example, before we played in the Nedbank Cup it was so much difficult to play without conceding goals in our league.
“We were winning matches but also conceding goals. We have learned in the we need to be more ruthless in the chances that we create because we realised how difficult it was to score against Supersport United and Amazulu.
“Against Orlando Pirates, we won’t play the same way we played against Supersport United and Amazulu because they have different personnel with different qualities. Our principles will never change, we will be the same Dondol Stars but in terms of [playing] personnel you might see a few changes because we want to adapt few things within our game model.”
