Kaizer Chiefs defender, Edmilson Dove, says dealing with Orlando Pirates wide players helped Amakhosi win the 177th Soweto Derby.
The Mozambican international missed the 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows last week but was back in the line-up as they beat Orlando Pirates 1-0.
With a minute remaining on the clock, the defender played a long ball into the Pirates half which was headed by Olisa Ndah into the back of his own net for an own goal.
“Last week I couldn’t be part of the group [against Golden Arrows] because I was sick and it’s good to be back,” Dove told Supersport after the match.
“It’s a team effort, so congratulations to the team because we knew that it was going to be a difficult game and we got rewarded. We knew that we had to deal with their wide players – Monnapule Saleng is fast, Vincent Pule was there as well as Thembinkosi Lorch.
“What worked for us was keeping a compact back line. Regarding the goal, I saw one of my teammates making a run and I was trying to pick him up and fortunately the ball went in.”
The 1-0 win for Chiefs is the fifth successive win over Orlando Pirates.
