Marumo Gallants scored two late goals to beat Royal AM 3-1 at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
Before the kick off, Marumo Gallants had only three victories in 23 DStv Premiership matches.
The home side opened scoring in the 11th minute through Lesiba Nku who received a pass in an unmarked position before hit a powerful shot into the back of the net.
With five minutes remaining on the clock, Mfundo Thikazi equalised for Royal AM with a well-taken free kick. But Bahlabane Ba Ntwa regained the lead on the 89th minute thanks to Cheick Bamba Soumaro’s goal.
Seven minutes into stoppage time, Mahlatse Makudubela made it 3-1 after a great solo run to give Marumo Gallants a well deserved three points.
“I think this is the greatest performance I’ve ever seen from this team after beating Sekhukhune United 2-0,” Marumo Gallants coach Selaotse Mosala said.
“Today we showed character, we showed attitude, we showed high level of commitment and that is why we were able to get the results. We never stopped. We started the second half a little bit sluggish but eventually we came back into the game.
We created more chances; on another day if we missed chances like this it would have been difficult but today was our day because the performance was great.”
With six league matches remaining before the end of the season, only one point, separates Gallants at the bottom of the table with 15th placed Maritzburg United.
“In our situations it’s all about the results and the performance and the enjoyment was there.
But we cannot let games go this way. In the next game we have to kill the game early and then play comfortably throughout.
“We conceded in the last five minutes of the game but we did not stop, the character and willingness of wanting to win the game was still there and that is why we were able to score the second and third goals.”
