Chippa United coach, Kurt Lentjie, says he was not surprised that his goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabili, saved a last-minute penalty against Sekhukhune United.
Chippa United played to a 1-1 with Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium. Chibuike Ohizu opened the scoring for the home side which was cancelled by Etiosa Ighodaro three minutes later.
But on the 90th minute Sekhukhune United were awarded a penalty when Roscoe Petersen was judged to have handled the ball inside the box by referee Skhumbuzo Gasa. Ohizu spot kick was saved Nwabili.
“I’m happy considering that it was the last kick of the game and the goalkeeper saved the penalty,” Lentjies said after the game. “Stanley deserves it. I’m not going to tell not practise or kick penalties at training because we saw what happened today. When he saved the penalty, it was a big celebration but not a surprise.”
“We got one point but we wanted three. The first half was fine, we kept our shape well with the ball and didn’t threaten their goals that much. In the second half we changed into back three and suffered an injury which threw the game plan out.
“But what can we do? We got the point, the guys fought. And we asked them to shift into positions where they are not comfortable but they sacrificed for the team.”
