Manchester United have reportedly introduced a ‘Ronaldo rule’ that will ensure that no player inside the club is paid significantly more than their teammates.
While he was a Manchester United player, Cristiano Ronaldo, earned £385000 Pounds (R8 million) per week and starting from next season Manchester United salaries will now be capped at £200,000 (R4.1 Million) per week according to the Daily Mail.
Spanish with goalkeeper David de Gea, who earns £375,000 (R7.7 million) a-week is the first player that will be impacted by the change.
De Gea’s contract with the Red Devils ends at the end of the season and has been offered a lower deal that is in line with the contract signed by Bruno Fernandes last season.
Former Real Madrid players Raphael Varane, Casemiro; Harry Maguire, who is linked with a move to Aston Vila are all in the same pay bracket (£180,000 to £200,000 a week) – (R3.7 million- R4.1 Million).
