Mdaka: We will fight in the second round

Marumo Gallants coach, Raymond Mdaka, has promised that his side will put up a fight when they take on USM Alger in the Caf Confederation Cup second round.

The DStv Premiership lost 2-0 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Algeria with goals coming from Abderrahmane Meziane and Zinnedine Belaidwith.

“It was a very good game and we have experienced a number of things from the match – but it’s still a first round and we still have to play the second round,” Mdaka said after the match.

“We are not undermining them but we will put up a fight when we meet them in second round.”

Gallants started the Caf Confederation Cup Group A with an impressive 4-1 win over Libyan side, Al Akhdar. This was followed by a 2-1 win against St Eloi Lupopo in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mdaka has promised a different approach when his side hosts USM Alger on match day four on Wednesday, 8 March.

“In terms of the playing personnel we cannot confirm if we will be making changes because we still have three more days until our next league match. But the approach will be different.

We can’t make excuses about the crowd and weather conditions even though it might have an impact in the results. Obviously, this place [Algeria] is cold, it’s not as warm as back home.

But we don’t want to make that a reason for our loss. When they come to South Africa it will be a different and the weather might work to our advantage”
