Riveiro: We have experience with lower division teams

Orlando Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro, says his team has enough experience to deal with teams from lower division ahead of the Nedbank Cup fixture against Dondol Stars.

The Buccaneers will take on ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to continue progressing in the tournament,” Riveiro said. This is a special competition and that increases motivation around the team, we are preparing ourselves as usual and as possible.”

Pirates beat All Stars 2-0 in the Round of 32 and Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Venda Football Academy in the Round of 16. The Spanish mentor says the venue of the match will not have a direct impact on the results.

“I hope players feel comfortable wherever we play. We have played a decent amount of away games in the PSL having good performance and having good results. We just want to continue.

“This competition is coming in a good moment for us and we need to capitalise on that and not think so much about who is in front of us. We want to go all the way.

“Each team is an obstacle and we don’t think so much about which division they play in or which venue are we going to play. We just want to overcome the next obstacle so that we can see in the next round.”

The Buccaneers won the MTN8 earlier in the season and Riveiro believes there is no pressure to win the second trophy.

“I don’t believe so,” he said. “But pressure we will always be there because we are looking for results. There is an opponent in front of us that also want the same thing we want.

“The pressure is there but it’s not something negative. Imagine if I say we are going to the game without any pressure, I’m going to look arrogant and relaxed and that is not the case.

“We are 100 percent concentrating on the task, it’s going to be complicated. We have experience already in the Nedbank Cup in dealing with teams from lower league.”
