Safa pays tribute to Moeti

South African Football Association paid tribute to the late Bafana Bafana captain, John Moeti, who passed away at the age of 55.

According to the mother body of South African football, the news were confirmed by Moeti family spokesperson, Victor Rakhale.

“It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we inform you of the passing of John “Dungi” Moeti,” Rakhale told www.safa.net.

“John suddenly took ill eight months ago and was receiving specialist medical care.

He succumbed to his illness in the early hours of this morning (6 February 2023) at home, surrounded by his family and brethren in prayer.

“We thank you sincerely for your prayers and steadfast support. The family wishes to be afforded privacy during this time of loss, and funeral details will be advised in due course.”

SAFA president Danny Jordaan paid tribute to the former player.

“The South African Football Association and I wish to convey our sincerest condolences and heartfelt sorrow to the family and friends of Dungi Moeti,” the SAFA President said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones and friends.”
