Sundowns held by 10-men Cape Town City

Mamelodi Sundowns played to a 0-0 draw with Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Before the match, Sundowns received a guard of honour from the visiting side after clinching the sixth consecutive league title with seven games to spare.

In the early stages of the match, chances were few and far between but on the 18th minute Khanyisa Mayo set up Thato Mokeke who shot straight into the hands of Ronwen Williams.

On the 30th minute Darwin Gonzalez received a pass on the edge of the Sundowns, cut inside with his right foot and unleashed a powerful shot which was parried away for a corner kick by Williams.

With six minutes remaining before the interval, the home side came close breaking the deadlock when Themba Zwane laid a perfect pass for Cassius Mailula who was unmarked inside the Cape Town City box. Mailula took a shot which was well-saved by Darren Keet.

Four minutes later Keet was forced into a making a save again – Marcelo Allende’s corner found Teboko Mokoena who headed the ball straight to the Cape Town City goalkeeper.

Cape Town City got the second half underway but it was the home side who controlled the proceedings. On the 60th minute Mailula left shot went inches wide.

On the 74th minute City, were reduced to ten men when substitute Brice Ambina received his second yellow for a foul on Aubrey Modiba.

But the newly crowned DStv Premiership champions failed to advantage of an extra match and match ended 0-0.
