Sundowns share spoils with Al Ahly

Mamelodi Sundowns came from 2-1 down to draw with Al Ahly in an entertaining Caf Champions League match at Salam Stadium in Cairo.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Peter Shalulile tapped in Cassius Mailula’s low cross to make the score 1-0.

With five minutes remaining before the interval, Marcel Koller side came close to equalizing only for Khuliso Mudau to clear the ball out for a corner kick.

Al Ahly came out a stronger team in the second half and awarded a penalty when Mthobi Mvala brought down Percy Tau inside the box. Mohamed Hany’s penalty was denied by goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

But pressure finally paid off for the home team when Mohamed Abdelmonem headed home a corner kick in the 59th to make the score 1-1.

Al Ahly took the lead in the 74th when Hussein el Shahat riffled home a lot shot past Williams.
With ten minutes remaining Mailula’s shot hit the post and Thapelo Morena finished the rebound past goalkeeper Mohamed el Shenawy.

After two wins and one draw, Sundowns remain at the top of Group B on seven points.
