Mamelodi Sundowns beat Al Ahly 5-2 in an entertaining Caf Champions League match played at Loftus Stadium.
The win takes Masandawana on top of Group B standings with 10 points from four matches.
The home side took the lead in the second minute when Themba Zwane laid a good pass for Marcelo Allende to curl the ball into the back of the net.
But ten minutes later, the visitors capitalised from the Sundowns mistake in the midfield. Percy Tau dispossessed the ball from Aubrey Modiba and laid a perfect pass for Ahmed Kendouci. Kendouci’s pass found an unmarked Mohamed Sherif outside the box and the forward made it 1-1 with a clinical finish.
Midway through the first half, Al Ahly failed to clear Modiba’s corner kick and Zwane latched on to Teboho Mokoena’s header and made it 1-1 inside the six-yard box.
Five minutes before the interval, Mokoena, received a ball from outside the box and unleashed a thunderous strike into the back of the net to make the score 3-1.
Sixteen minutes into the second half Al Ahly reduced the deficit to 3-2 when, Tau, received a pass on the left and outfoxed Modiba with a brilliant piece of skill before curling the ball into the back of the Sundowns net. The visitors tried to claw their way back into the game and forced Ronwen Williams to make save from a long-range free kick.
With less than 20 minutes left on the clock Pater Shalulile finished off Neo Maema’s pass with a well-taken shot past Mohamed El Shenawy to take the game beyond Al Ahly’s reach.
The Namibian completed his brace with five minutes remaining on the click to give Sundowns a 5-2 victory.
