Tinkler: Stellenbosch will come out fighting

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler expects Stellenbosch FC to come out fighting when the two sides meet in the Cape Derby on Friday.

Stellenbosch have yet to win a league match since beating Maritzburg United 3-0 in October last year and a win against Cape Town City will see them moving out of the relegation zone.

“Obviously Stellenbosch is going through a rough patch at the moment, they are struggling to get positive results” said Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler.

“But I don’t think that means anything because it’s the [Cape Town] Derby. They will come out fighting, we’ve seen it because we’ve played against them a lot especially in friendly matches and they know us quiet well.

We have to ensure that we play with a lot of positivity, we have to play with a lot of aggression, win our duals and not allow them to bully us. It’s important that we worry about ourselves, that’s key.”

Cape Town City won two of the last three results and Tinkler expects his team to continue with the good run of form.

“The last three results were very positive and now we need to build on that. The confidence and the morale are high right now.

But like I said, we cannot underestimate the Stellenbosch team especially when it comes to the Cape Derby. There’s going to be a lot of people there [at the Stadium] and that’s great, it will create a great atmosphere.

Hopefully the players can step up and produce quality football for the fans to enjoy.”
