Marumo Gallants coach, Dan Malesela, blames a red card and poor defending for his side’s 2-0 defeat to Richards Bay.
Relegation-threatened Marumo Gallants lost 2-0 at home to Richards Bay with defender Sibusiso Khumalo shown a straight red card by referee Jelly Chavani.
Malesela’s side is tied on 14 points with 16th-placed Maritzburg United having played two more matches.
“This is not a game we deserved to lose because this [loss] was self-inflicted,” Malesela said.
“First of all, we missed a lot of chances in the first half, we had a player halfway line and then we made a tackle and got a red card. That was not necessary, it put us on the back foot. We had two of our players going for the same ball – both of them lost the ball and we conceded.
The same thing happened with the second goal. We are our own enemies.”
In February 2021, Abram Sello bought Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila and re-named the team Marumo Gallants.
Two years later the team is facing the possibility of getting relegated to the First Division. The next two matches against Amazulu and Golden Arrows will be crucial in the team’s fight against relegation.
“Hopefully, other players who were injured will come back and help. And let’s see who we can bring in and how better we can play,” added Malesela.
