Maluleka wary of Dondol Stars

Amazulu midfielder, George Maluleka, says he is wary of Dondol Stars after the ABC Motsepe League side knocked out Supersport United in the Nedbank Cup.

Dondol Stars came from behind to beat the three-times PSL champions 2-1 in the round of 32 while Amazulu beat Tornado 3-2.

“Dondol Stars is not going to be an easy match, we’ve seen a couple of their clips,” Maluleka told the club media.

“In the match against Supersport United we saw that they are not afraid to play, but it’s going to be an interesting one. I think, if we can just apply ourselves and approach the game without undermining our opponents, we should be able to go through.”

Nedbank Cup is a competition known for producing David and Goliath clashes. In 2011 Baroka, who were campaigning in third tier of South African football beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1.

“I think we are aware of the history of the tournament – it’s always David and Goliath,” adds Maluleka. “The approach in this game should be like any other game and not undermining anyone and respecting the opposition.

“We must also show them that we are just as capable and that is why we are playing in the top tier. There’s a lot of things to consider but must be wary of them as a smaller team, they have nothing to lose.

“They can be more expressive, which puts us under pressure. If we apply ourselves I don’t think we should have any problems.”

The match will be played at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, 8 March and kick off is at 20h00.
