Mokotjo: I have no set goals for Bafana

Sekhukhune United player, Kamohelo Mokotjo, says he no set goals to return to Bafana Bafana.

This week, the South African senior national team beat Liberia to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for first time since 2019.

“If the opportunity arises, I cannot say no to my country,” the player said. “As an individual, I have no set goals for Bafana Bafana at the moment.

“I still have passion for the game, I have hunger, I know that no matter how good, how young, how old you – you can still grow. You can still be a at a certain level. I don’t rule myself out when it comes to anything. We will see what happens but my focus is here.”

Mokotjo joined Sekhukhune United after a short spell with FC Cincinnati in the Major League Soccer. The 32-year-old says the standard of the league is growing with a lot of room for improvement.

“When it comes to the conditions, I never had a problem adjusting, the good thing is I came back in good shape. I set my goals and I knew what I wanted.

“Adaptation was smooth, the club helped me a lot, the staff, the medical team, the players too. I obviously had to keep up with them after being out for such a long time.

“The standard [of the league] is growing, there are lot of things that they have in Europe that they don’t have here. We have to compensate for those things which doesn’t make it easy for the players or the coaches.

“But I think when it comes to standard of the league, it’s not bad. There is still a lot of room for growth in every department of a football club.”
