The PSL has refused to adjudicate a case between DStv Premiership side, Sekhukhune United, and player Leonardo Rooi citing lack of jurisdiction in the matter.
Sekhukhune United lodged a case with the PSL Disciplinary Committee alleging that Rooi absented from official duty for a number of days.
“I can confirm that the PSL DC considered a complaint, duly lodged and prosecuted by Sekhukhune United,” said the PSL Prosecutor Zola Majavu. “The player concerned was Mr. Leonardo Roy and the allegation against him was that he absented himself from official duty on a number of days without just cause.
“The matter was subsequently and initially reported to the internal DC of the club – that is Sekhukhune United – and for some reason, the Chair of those proceedings ruled that this misconduct must be refereed to the PSL DC as a complaint by Sekhukhune United.
“Sekhukhune duly followed the complaint procedure in accordance with the PSL rules and the matter was officially tabled by myself as a prosecutor before the tribunal, whereafter it was duly prosecuted by Sekhukhune United itself.
“However, right at the beginning and correctly so in my view, the player’s legal representative raised an objection relating to the jurisdiction of the PSL DC.
“Having listened to the submissions between the two parties and the League remaining neutral – the PSL DC concluded that, indeed, it does not have jurisdictions to entertain this matter. The complaint itself was not even adjudicated due to lack of jurisdiction by the PSL DC.”
