Orlando Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro, says his team main objective between now and the end of the season, is to finish second and represent The Buccaneers in the Caf Champions League.
Riveiro’s beat Richards Bay 2-0 at King Zwelithini Stadium thanks to goals from Terrence Dzvukamanja and Monnapule Saleng.
“We played a very complete game, there was a period in the second half that the game became crazy,” Riveiro told SABC Sport after the match. “We couldn’t control it; they had their chances as well due to the chaos they generated with long balls.
“We knew what was going to happen and the answer from the players on the field was excellent once again. We adapted ourselves very well. Probably we should have finished the game in the second half so that we don’t suffer that much.
“We can’t ask more from players, they gave it all in duals, second balls, aerial balls – I’m so happy and proud to see them performing very well.”
Second-placed Pirates are tied on 40 points with Supersport United and Kaizer Chiefs respectively – the three teams are separated by goal difference.
With six league matches remaining before the end of the season, the Spanish mentor wants his team to finish in the second place.
“Our objective is to be second and represent Pirates in Africa next season badly,” he said.
“We are going to go all the way to the end trying to make sure that we are that team in the end. It doesn’t matter who is number two tonight or tomorrow it’s going to be at the end of the season; that’s when it matters. We want to be that team and we know what we need to do.”
