Percy Tau opened the Egyptian Premier League season with a man of the match performance when Al Ahly beat Al Masry 4-0.
Al Ahly, the African champions, began their title defence campaign against Al Masry whose manager, Ali Maher, fielded six new signings in the starting line-up.
Al Ahly featured key players such as Anthony Modeste, Emam Ashour, and Reda Slim. The first half of the game didn’t see many scoring opportunities for either side.
However, in the 44th minute, Al Ahly’s new signing, Reda Slim, scored a goal, marking his domestic debut with a strike assisted by Emam Ashour.
Baher Elmohamady had a difficult start to his Al Masry career as he received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 52nd minute for a foul on Emam Ashour.
In the 69th minute, Tau extended Al Ahly’s lead with a beautifully curled shot past Mahmoud Gad after receiving a pass from Mohamed Hany.
Six minutes later, Tau completed his brace, making it 3-0, this time being sent through on goal with a brilliant long through ball from Emam Ashour.
In the 88th minute, an entertaining teamwork play from Al Ahly resulted in Abdelkader providing a backheel pass to Karim Fouad, who scored to make it 4-0.
