Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says he is not thinking about log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns despite the wide gap of 21 points between the two sides.
Orlando Pirates hosts Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium after losing three league matches in a row against Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City.
“We had a fantastic beginning of the week in terms of preparations,” Riveiro said during the Orlando Pirates media day.
“We are back home and playing our next match at Orlando Stadium after bad results last Saturday [against Cape Town City].

We are just counting the hours to start again and have the opportunity to get back to winning terms.
“The Soweto Derby was a long time ago and a lot things have happened between then and now. But when I look at the last two games since the break – I can say that we did not have a bad game in Pretoria [against Mamelodi Sundowns] in my opinion.
It was not about performance; there was a moment in the game when both teams could score and they did it. The game we played in Cape Town a few days ago makes me feel really happy and optimistic about the future of this group.
The level of performance there was not bad but the results was impossible for different reasons. But this is football, these things happen. But we won’t change the direction of where we want to go, we have to get better every week and this is a long process.
I’m not thinking about Mamelodi Sundowns, Supersport United or Richards Bay- we are focussed on ourselves.”
Pirates are level on points with Golden Arrows who won two of their last three matches.
“Arrows is very good team, full of quality, they have speed and are good in transition,” said Riveiro. “It’s one of the probabilities that they will try to recover the ball with quick wingers and players who can create chances with one or two passes.
It’s a difficult team to play against and they won two matches in the last three. We played them in Durban and it was not easy even though we managed to them. They pushed us to the limit in the last part of the game.
We are a team that needs to have a good game to get three points, we don’t usually get points when we are not at a good level. We are going to be in our best against them.”
