Zwane not worried about losing his job

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane says he is not worried about his team’s fluctuating results ahead of the DStv Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi ended 2022 with a 2-0 win against Golden Arrows before suffering back-to-back defeats against Sekhukhune United and Amazulu.

“We all know it’s a big one and it’s going to be tough because we are playing against a team that is doing well, current champions and a team that is on top of the log,” said Zwane.

“Our preparations are going well and the boys have responded well and looking forward to the game.

But it’s very key we run our race. We don’t want to focus on Sundowns.

Yes, we will profile them but we don’t want to put ourselves under pressure, we want to worry about ourselves and how we can rectify our past mistakes and the guys have been doing well when it comes to that.

We have senior players who will not be available for the game due to injuries and unforeseen circumstances.

We have to give young ones a chance to showcase themselves. We have to continue with them because at the end of the day it’s about the future of this club. We are in a building phase and also trying to build a way of playing.

As much as results are fluctuating, I’ve seen a lot of positive things coming out of what we have been doing since the beginning of the season. At some moments you will pay the price when you play with the youngsters.

The game is a teacher and most of them are improving. And the more they play the more they gain experience.”

The gap between log leaders Sundowns and fourth-placed Chiefs is 19 points but Zwane says he is more concerned about Chiefs’ plans that losing his job.

“I’m not worried because we have a plan as a club, a plan that has to be executed. I’m not worried about myself or losing my job because when I took over at this club, I knew that at some point I will have to give other people an opportunity.

What I didn’t know is how long I will be in this position. At the moment I have a task that I have to fulfil and I’m doing exactly what the team has asked me to do.”
