Sundowns restructure Youth Academy

Mamelodi Sundowns has made significant changes to its development academy structure in order to improve the quality of footballers produced by the club.

The Diski Team, a critical transitional team between the first team and the academy, is now training at Chloorkop “and will receive all necessary support as the club’s most important transition team between the first team and the academy” according to the club.

The Diski Team is coached by Sinethemba Badela, who is assisted by Michael Manzini. Manzini previously coached the Under-19 team and won the Engen Tournament.

Phuphu Mohlaba, who coached the opposition in the Engen Tournament finals, has joined the Diski Team as an assistant coach and Tshepo Makgata will continue to be the goalkeeper coach for the team.

David Notoane has been appointed as the Head of Transition. His responsibilities include overseeing the transition of players within different academy structures, including the Diski Team and Under-19.

He will also play a role in recommending and monitoring players who can move between these structures.
